The Sound of Perseverance című album 1998. augusztus 31-én jelent meg a Nuclear Blast kiadónál, mint a Death hetedik és utolsó stúdióalbuma. A dupla CD 19 dalt tartalmaz, beleértve a dalok végleges verzióit és az 1997–1998-as demófelvételeket is. Az album a Death diszkográfia egyik legkiemelkedőbb alkotása, és a kritikusok minden idők legnagyobb heavy metal albumai közé sorolják.
