Paul Desmond amerikai altszaxofonos és zeneszerző, a cool jazz jeles képviselője volt. A Dave Brubeck Quartet tagjaként vált híressé, a kvartett legnagyobb slágerét, a Take Five-ot ő komponálta – a dal mindmáig a legtöbbet eladott jazz-felvétel. Tiszta, könnyed, áramló hangzás és lágy balladák jellemezték játékát, amelyek a klasszikus Brubeck-kvartett hangzásának meghatározó részét képezték. Együttműködött többek között Gerry Mulligannel, Jim Hallal és Chet Bakerrel.
A The Complete RCA Albums Collection című válogatás 2011-ben jelent meg a Legacy kiadónál, és összesen 70 felvételt tartalmaz hat CD-n. Az 1962 és 1965 között az RCA-nál és a Bluebird kiadónál megjelent albumokat tartalmazza, köztük a Desmond Blue (1962), a Take Ten (1963) és a Bossa Antigua (1965) című lemezeket, alternatív felvételekkel és archív bónuszanyagokkal kiegészítve.
