Howard Shore kanadai filmzeneszerző, a Gyűrűk Ura-trilógiáért három Oscar-díjjal jutalmazták. Munkássága több mint 80 filmzenét foglal magában, és hosszú ideje együttműködik Peter Jackson és David Cronenberg rendezőkkel. Jackson fantasy-világához Shore Richard Wagner leitmotívtechnikáját tanulmányozta.
A The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack album 2014 decemberében jelent meg a Decca Records kiadónál Peter Jackson Hobbit-trilógiájának záró részéhez készült filmzeneként. Az orchestrális felvétel 21 dalt tartalmaz két CD-n, a kórusokat az Abbey Road Studios és az Air Studios londoni stúdiókban rögzítették. A kiemelkedő darabok között szerepel a Fire and Water, a Battle for the Mountain, a Sons of Durin és a záró The Last Goodbye.
