Nina Simone, eredeti nevén Eunice Kathleen Waymon, amerikai énekesnő, zongorista és emberjogi aktivista volt. Zenéje a jazzt, bluest, soult, gospelt és klasszikus hatásokat – különösen J. S. Bach művészetét – ötvözte, és a közönség a „High Priestess of Soul” címmel illette. A Juilliard School of Music növendékeként eredetileg koncertzongoristának készült; a színpadon azonban megtalálta saját hangját, és nemzedéke egyik legjelentősebb előadójává vált.
