A Grateful Dead 1965-ben Palo Altóban, Kaliforniában alapított amerikai rockegyüttes, amely eklektikus stílusáról ismert, ötvözve a rockot, folkot, bluegrasst, bluest, countryt, jazzt, psychedeliát és más hatásokat. Az élő fellépések során előadott hosszú improvizációiról és „Deadheads” néven ismert odaadó rajongótáboráról vált híressé. 2007-ben Grammy-életműdíjat kapott.
A Workingman's Dead az együttes negyedik stúdióalbuma, amelyet 1970. június 14-én adott ki a Warner Bros. Records. A Rolling Stone magazin 1970 legjobb lemezének nyilvánította. Az 1970 februárjában rögzített album a következő American Beautyval együtt eltávolodik a korábbi lemezek pszichedelikus kísérleteitől, és Jerry Garcia és Robert Hunter Americana stílusa felé fordul. Ez a 2020-as remasterelt kiadás összesen 16 dalt tartalmaz, köztük az Uncle John's Band, a Casey Jones és a Cumberland Blues című számokat, valamint bónuszként az 1971. február 21-i New York-i Capitol Theatre-beli koncert felvételét.
