A Queen 1970-ben Londonban alapított brit rockegyüttes, amelynek korai munkásságát főként a progresszív rock és a hard rock határozta meg. A zenekar idővel kereskedelmibb stílusok felé fordult — a klasszikus rocktól a pop rockig, a funkig és az R&B-ig.
A Queen című bemutatkozó stúdióalbum 1973. július 13-án jelent meg az Egyesült Királyságban az EMI Records kiadásában; ezt a remaszterelt változatot a Hollywood Records kínálja. A felvételek a londoni Trident és De Lane Lea stúdiókban készültek, Roy Thomas Baker, John Anthony és maguk az együttes tagjai produceri munkája eredményezte a hard rockot és glamet ötvöző tömör, dinamikus hangzást. Az album tíz eredeti dalt tartalmaz — a legkiemelkedőbbek a rockos Keep Yourself Alive, a progresszív Liar és a mesés hangulatú My Fairy King. A reflektorfényben álló Freddie Mercuryt ábrázoló borítót Mercury és Brian May tervezte Douglas Puddifoottal. A brit listán a lemez a 24. helyet szerezte meg, és megalapozta az együttes jellegzetes korszakát — a borítón hangsúlyozzák, hogy „senki sem játszott szintetizátoron”.
Az 1973-as felállásban Freddie Mercury (ének), Brian May (gitár, háttérvokál), Roger Taylor (dob, háttérvokál) és John Deacon (basszusgitár) működött közre.
