A Queen brit rockegyüttes 1970-ben alakult Londonban; zenéjét a többrétegű hangzás, vokálharmóniák és műfaji sokszínűség jellemzi – a progresszív rock és hard rock mellett pop rock és funk elemek is megtalálhatók munkásságában.
A Queen II album 1974 márciusában jelent meg az EMI kiadónál, és 1973 augusztusában rögzítették a londoni Trident és Langham 1 stúdiókban Roy Thomas Baker producerrel. Az eredeti LP a szokásos A és B oldal helyett „fehér oldal” és „fekete oldal” megnevezést kapott – a fehér rész érzelmileg gazdagabb, melodikus dalokat tartalmaz, a fekete rész kizárólag fantáziavilágot megidéző, sötétebb hangulatú kompozíciókat. Ez a négy CD-s kiadás az eredeti album 2026-os remixét, session-felvételeket és alternatív verziókat, instrumentális alapok mellett ritka BBC- és Golders Green Hippodrome-beli élő anyagokat (1973 szeptembere) is tartalmaz, köztük az Ogre Battle, a Seven Seas of Rhye és The March of the Black Queen című dalokat.
A felvételek idején az együttest Freddie Mercury (ének), Brian May (gitár, vokál), Roger Taylor (dob, vokál) és John Deacon (basszusgitár) alkotta.
