A Saxon brit heavy metal együttes a Brit Heavy Metal Új Hullámának meghatározó képviselője. A nyolcvanas években jelentős sikereket értek el, és számos későbbi zenekarra, köztük a Metallicára és a Megadethre is hatással voltak.
A Rock the Nations a Saxon nyolcadik stúdióalbuma, amely 1986 szeptemberében jelent meg az EMI kiadónál. Ez a bővített kiadás összesen 17 dalt tartalmaz, köztük bónusz felvételeket – ezek között a Waiting for the Night és a Northern Lady kislemezváltozatai, madridi élő felvételek (Everybody Up, Dallas 1pm), valamint három dal a legendás 1986-os Reading Rock Fesztiválról (Power and the Glory, Rock the Nations, Waiting for the Night). Érdekesség, hogy a felvételek során ugyanabban a stúdióban dolgozott Elton John, aki közreműködött a Party Til You Puke és a Northern Lady számokon.
Az album megjelenésekor a Saxont hattagú felállás alkotta: Biff Byford (ének), Paul Quinn és Graham Oliver (gitár), Steve Dawson és Paul Johnson (basszusgitár), valamint Nigel Glockler (dob).
