A Dream Theater amerikai progresszív metal együttes, amely a műfaj legsikeresebb és legbefolyásosabb formációi közé tartozik. 1985-ös megalakulása óta a technikai virtuóz játékmódról, összetett kompozíciókról és a heavy metal, a progresszív rock és a fusion elemeinek ötvözéséről ismert.
A Distance over Time című album 2019. február 22-én jelent meg az InsideOut Music kiadó gondozásában, a zenekar tizennegyedik stúdiólemezként. A hétlemezes Blu-ray box összesen 72 felvételt tartalmaz — az album kilenc száma mellett azok instrumentális mixeit és animációs változatait is. Az együttes célja a korábbi, 2016-os The Astonishing albumhoz képest keményebb, nyers hangzás létrehozása volt. A kislemezdalok, az Untethered Angel, a Fall Into the Light és a Paralyzed fokozatosan jelentek meg a hivatalos kiadás előtt, az első kettőhöz videóklip is készült. A Distance over Time lett a Dream Theater eddigi legsikeresebb albuma a lemezeladási listákon — Németországban és Svájcban az első helyet szerezte meg, összesen 19 országban pedig a top 10-be került.
Az album megjelenésekor a Dream Theater felállása: John Petrucci (gitár, háttérvokál), James LaBrie (ének), John Myung (basszusgitár, Chapman stick), Jordan Rudess (billentyűs hangszerek, continuum, lap steel guitar) és Mike Mangini (dob, ütőhangszerek).
