A Dream Theater amerikai progresszív metal együttes, amelyet 1985-ben alapítottak, és a műfaj egyik legjelentősebb és kereskedelmileg legsikeresebb képviselője. A modern progresszív metalt a 70-es évek progresszív rockjának, a fusion és az orchestrális zene elemeivel ötvözi.
A Distance Over Time című album 2019 februárjában jelent meg a Sony Music kiadó gondozásában, és az együttes eddigi legsikeresebb lemeze a slágerlistákon — 19 országban az első tízbe került, Németországban és Svájcban pedig az első helyet szerezte meg. Ez a négy lemezes Blu-ray kiadás összesen 60 felvételt tartalmaz: az album eredeti verzióját, a dalok hangszeres mixeit és audio animációkat. A főbb dalok közé tartozik az Untethered Angel, a Paralyzed és a Fall Into the Light. Az együttes célja az volt, hogy az előző konceptalbumhoz, a The Astonishing-hoz képest keményebb és közvetlenebb lemezt készítsen.
Az album megjelenésekor a Dream Theater tagjai voltak: John Petrucci (gitár, háttérvokál), James LaBrie (ének), John Myung (basszusgitár, Chapman stick), Jordan Rudess (billentyűs hangszerek, continuum, lap steel gitár), Mike Mangini (dob, ütőhangszerek) és Steve Stone.
