Az angol heavymetal együttes, a Black Sabbath a műfaj úttörői közé tartozik. A zenekart 1968-ban alapították Birminghamben Ozzy Osbourne énekes, Tony Iommi gitáros, Geezer Butler basszusgitáros és Bill Ward dobos. Az együttes jellegzetes stílust alakított ki hangsúlyos gitárriffekkel és horror szövegekkel.
Az 1972-es Vol.4 album a heavy metal mérföldkövei közé tartozik. Ez a szuperluxus box set kiadás öt CD-n tartalmazza az eredeti album 2021-ben újra remasterezett változatát, Steven Wilson mixelésében készült outtake-eket, alternatív felvételeket olyan dalokból, mint a Wheels of Confusion, a Supernaut vagy a Snowblind, valamint egy teljes koncertfelvételt az 1973-as Nagy-Britanniai turnéról Richard Digby Smith mixelésében. A csomag része egy könyv és egy poszter is.
Az album felvételekor a Black Sabbath felállását Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler és Bill Ward alkotta.
